Motorola Edge 30 Pro Review: Leading Budget Performance!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
The Motorola Edge 20 series was launched by Motorola last year. The Edge series is quite first-class compared to the company’s budget series G and E smartphones, with which Motorola also competes in this premium segment. The Edge 20 and Edge 20 Pro smartphones fall into the segment below 30,000 and 40,000 rupees, respectively. The company has now released the Edge 30 Pro as an upgrade to the Edge 20 Pro, which was introduced to deliver great performance. Motorola gave Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in this phone. At the same time, the price of the phone also tried to be kept low. If you are looking for the most powerful Android phone processor at the lowest possible price, is the Motorola Edge 30 Pro the only option? Learn in this review of mine.

Price of Motorola Edge 30 Pro in India

The Motorola Edge 30 Pro is priced at Rs 49,999 in India and comes with only 8GB of RAM and a 128GB storage model. There is also no option to increase storage. The company presented it in color versions Cosmos Blue and Stardust White.

Design by Motorola Edge 30 Pro

The design of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro is almost similar to that of the Edge 20 Pro. I came across this Cosmos Blue review option, which I found to be quite first class. The phone has a large 6.7-inch display and a small camera slot at the top. There are thin frames on the side of the display. The back panel is made of glass with curved sides, which makes the phone comfortable to hold. The phone is quite large and weighs 196 grams, which is also felt when held in the hand. The frame of the phone is plastic, which is not suitable for flagship phones.

The power and volume buttons on the smartphone are given on the right side and in my opinion are placed at a slight height. The left frame of the phone remains blank. Because the fingerprint scanner is built into the power button, I often had to slide my thumb up to unlock the phone. The company could hold down the power button and the volume buttons on the left. Only the secondary microphone is given in the top frame of the phone, while the SIM tray, main microphone, USB Type-C port and speaker are given in the bottom.

motorola

In the rear panel, the camera module is given in the upper left corner. It doesn’t stick out much, but it looks beautifully integrated into the back panel. The phone does not seem to be lifted even when placed on a level surface. To prevent scratching the main camera, Motorola has placed a metal ring around it. The phone receives an IP52 rating, so it is dust resistant and can survive damage from light water splashes.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro specifications and Software

Motorola Edge 30 Pro features a 6.7-inch FullHD + AMOLED display with HDR10 + certification and a maximum refresh rate of 144Hz. The viewing angles of the panel are good and its brightness is sufficient when shooting outdoors. The company has given the option of DC dimming in it, which helps save energy by reducing the brightness. The front of the phone gets Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, which is a bit surprising as the Gorilla Glass 5 protection is given in the back panel. The stereo speakers in the Edge 30 Pro come with Dolby Atmos support.

The most important feature of the phone is its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. This is the most powerful processor currently available in any Android phone. The same processor is given in the iQoo 9 Pro series and Samsung Galaxy S22, but the price of these smartphones is much higher.

motorola

Motorola Edge 30 Pro has support for Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6, 13 5G bands, NFC and six satellite navigation systems. Motorola claims that more 5G bands can be activated by updating the software. Motorola Edge 30 Pro supports dual nano SIM and supports dual 5G and dual 4G VoLTE.

Edge 30 Pro has a 4800mAh battery with 68W fast charge. The charger comes with the box. It also supports wireless charging with 15W capacity. In addition, it can charge other Qi-supported devices and accessories with 5W wireless power-sharing capability.

The phone runs on My UX skin of the company based on Android 12. A security patch for Android from January 2022 was given in my device. The company says that in addition to Android 13, the phone will also receive an update to Android 14. Along with that, Android security updates will also be available for three years. It doesn’t seem to interfere with Motorola’s customization interface. With the standard Android 12, the user interface gets large toggle buttons and an indicator when the camera or microphone is used. The shape, color and font style of the icons can be customized. But you can not change the color of the wallpaper accent based on the user interface. I would like it if it had this feature. This feature is available in Realme 9 Pro + and Google Pixel with Android 12.

motorola

The user interface of the phone is very easy to use. There is also support for Moto Gestures, through which you can perform many types of actions. These include some of the traditional Moto gestures such as a double cut to switch the flashlight and a double crank to start the camera. With the Moto app, many more actions can be activated. I really liked his touch gesture. Double-tapping the power button displays a panel with shortcuts to preset contacts and applications. Apart from some Google applications, I found only facebook pre-installed in it and it can also be removed.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro performance and battery life

Motorola Edge 30 Pro is the first smartphone I used with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The processor is very fast and every time I tried to do something in it, this activity was loaded instantly. Scrolling was very smooth thanks to its 144Hz display. The AMOLED panel of the phone shows attractive colors and the contrast is also quite good. The experience of watching videos with stereo speakers was also good. One thing I noticed is that the speakers are not well balanced. The side fingerprint scanner felt a little inaccessible, but he managed to unlock the phone easily.

The phone scored quite well in comparative test applications. His AnTuTu score was 9,41,189. The phone scored 1194 in a single-core Geekbench 5 test and 3542 in a multi-core test. He managed to maintain 81 frames per second in the GFXBench Car Chase test. Here I noticed that the phone is heating up due to CPU load. As a result, the battery also drained very quickly.

motorola

No delay was detected while playing Call of Duty: Mobile. The fun in the game is doubled thanks to the stereo speaker. After 20 minutes, however, I found that the phone was overheated and the battery was also exhausted. Looking at its benchmark tests and gaming experience, I can say that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is quite a powerful processor. But when charged, its effectiveness begins to decline slightly.

The phone lasts 13 hours and 38 minutes in our HD video battery test, which is quite average performance for battery capacity. Under normal use, when fully charged, I was able to run it all day. But I soon felt the need to charge it when I use the camera and play. With a 68W fast charge, the phone charged 78 percent in 30 minutes and was fully charged within an hour.

Motorola Edge 30 Pro cameras

The phone has three high-resolution cameras, with the highest resolution being a 60-megapixel selfie camera. At the back there is a 50-megapixel main camera, which comes with optical image stabilization. Its aperture is f / 1.8. The secondary camera is a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens that has a field of view of 114 degrees. The third sensor is a 2-megapixel depth lens.

motorola

No changes have been made to the camera app. It gets the same camera features that are seen in the Edge 20 Pro. With Dual Capture you can record video with two cameras. It also has an audio zoom feature that focuses more on the sound of the subject at zoom.

The details are good in the photos taken during the day and this phone is quite fast in terms of focus. The dynamic range of the photos is quite good. The main camera and the wide-angle camera capture good colors, but there were no details and the barrel was also distorted.

Close-ups taken with the phone’s camera were quite good and the texture was also well maintained. The phone has signaled to switch to macro mode when the subject is too close. Because it uses a 50-megapixel camera for macro photography, the results were captured in great detail. Edge recognition was also good in portrait photography.

motorola

motorola

The low light shots were not impressive and the phone failed to capture details in the dark areas of the frame. It took 3 seconds to take photos in night mode, but the highlights were missed. I preferred to take regular photos instead of night mode, as there was not much difference in the details with night mode.

The selfie photo was pretty good. The photos came out better during the day and even in low light. The selfie portrait also managed to capture the phone better. The results were better when shooting in low light with an additional light source.

Up to 8K video can be captured on the Motorola Edge 30 Pro with the main rear camera. But videos can only be captured up to 4K with the selfie camera. The shots taken at 1080p in daylight were too sharp, but the 4K shots were better. The video stabilization was good. Low light shots were also good, but the graininess was high when shooting in 4K.

Sentence

The Motorola Edge 30 Pro smartphone came as a major upgrade to the Edge 20 Pro. It can also compete in the price segment above. The focus of the phone is its processor. If the need for improvement in low light conditions is left aside, then the performance of the camera will also be said to be good. Motorola increased competition by introducing this device at a price of Rs 49,999.

However, the Edge 30 Pro lags behind the title of the perfect smartphone. It is powerful, so it heats up very quickly. There was no problem with normal use, but the phone heats up while playing 3D games. If you don’t mind more than that, then you will love this phone very much. But if you like to play a lot of games on the phone, then the Asus ROG Phone 5s becomes a better option in this case with a slightly lower price.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
