Review of OnePlus Nord

Published

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
It’s been a few days since the launch of OnePlus Nord and now it’s time to review it. The base version of the OnePlus Nord with 64 GB of memory has been released in India for Rs 24,999 and this version will only be sold on Amazon, although no exact date has been set for when. The company has definitely confirmed that this option will arrive in September. Now, if you don’t want to wait for this option, then you can buy its other two options, which come with 8 GB RAM and 12 GB RAM and cost 30,000 and lower and today we will look at the top of OnePlus Nord – View only of the variant.

Not only OnePlus, but fans have high hopes with this “affordable” OnePlus Nord and we are also looking forward to reviewing this phone. So, let’s see how well the OnePlus Nord meets our expectations? Can he really offer the same experience as his dearest brother? Let’s find out.

OnePlus Nord: design and display

OnePlus has kept its design separate to make Nord stand out from the OnePlus 8 smartphones. The design style of the OnePlus Nord is somewhat similar to that of the Oppo and Realme phones, and we are not surprised, as all these brands are part of the same family. . However, the inclusion of a warning slider and the same old style of buttons and ports gives us the feeling that this is a OnePlus phone.

The quality can be called good for a phone made of polycarbonate. Gorilla Glass 5 protection is available at the front and rear. We really liked the blue marble color of the Nord module, which is also the color of our review module. In addition, the phone is presented in Gray Onyx color.

Like other OnePlus phones, there is no option to extend the storage of OnePlus Nord, as the SIM tray only supports two nano-SIM cards. Also available in 128 GB and 256 GB, in which you can not miss the storage space.

OnePlus smartphones are known for their AMOLED displays and I’m glad to see that OnePlus hasn’t compromised with this low-end smartphone. Its display is also AMOLED. The sides of the display are not curved as in the OnePlus 8, but instead there is a cutout for two selfie cameras. The display size is 6.44 inches and is available with Full-HD + resolution (1080×2400) with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The phone comes with HDR10 +. Overall, it’s a good panel, with black levels looking decent and colors appearing in abundance. However, there is some difference in the color tone of the white background and it is not adjusted even after a few updates. However, it is noticeable only after very careful examination.

With OnePlus Nord you get a silicone bumper case, Type-C cable, quick charger and stickers.

OnePlus Nord: specifications

OnePlus Nord comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset in India. The Qualcomm X52 5G modem is available in this chipset and is built on a 7nm process. It promises better processing capabilities and up to 30 percent faster graphics rendering than the Snapdragon 730G.

Three variants of the OnePlus Nord have been introduced in India. 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which will only be available on Amazon from September. It costs 24,999 rupees. In addition, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which costs Rs 27,999, and 12 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage, which costs Rs 29,999.

The thickness of OnePlus Nord is 8.2 mm and weighs 184 grams. You get support for navigation systems, including NFC, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.1 and navigation. The phone has one speaker, a fingerprint sensor in the display and a face unlock function. Nord does not have an official IP certificate, so you need to be a little careful with the water. You get a 4115 mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T fast charging technology.

The OnePlus experience would not be complete without OxygenOS. During the review, the phone ran software version 10.5.2 with the July security patch. Its interface and features are similar to the flagship phone OnePlus. There are also options for customizing Zen Mode, built-in screen recording and surround display, fingerprint animation and more. OnePlus also promised two years of software updates and three years of security updates for Nord.

oneplus

There have been some software changes to the OnePlus Nord compared to other OnePlus phones. The biggest one is the addition of the standard Google Dialing and Messaging app. No clear reason was shared for removing the Oxygen OS dialing and messaging app, but he simply said that based on his research, the company believes that buyers of mid-range smartphones will be better off with the Google app. You can get experience. We haven’t had a problem with standard Google applications, but it’s disappointing that Nord users won’t experience the India-specific features that OnePlus has added to its dialing and messaging applications over the years.

The second change was made in the camera app. In this you will be able to share your photo from Akari very easily from the application itself. For this you need to keep touching the preview and you will get the option to select the applications directly.

OnePlus Nord: performance

According to OnePlus, Nord users will get the same smooth and fast performance as the flagship phone, and we have to say that it does a great job. With regular use, we didn’t notice much difference between the OnePlus Nord and the flagship phones from OnePlus. The interface was very smooth and fast, applications loaded and closed quickly, and switching between applications was easy. The built-in fingerprint sensor works very well. Unlocking with a face is also quite fast and accurate.

The videos on the OnePlus display look great, especially when streaming HDR videos on YouTube and Netflix. Nord’s Dirac software enhancements deliver louder sound to even a single speaker.

oneplus

We used the OnePlus Nord for a week and its battery life was pretty solid. We easily received a backup for a day and a half with one charge. It managed to take a whole day even after many games and using the camera. In our video cycle test, the OnePlus Nord lasted about 14.5 hours, which is quite a decent amount of time. With the charger that comes with it, the phone charges up to 93 percent per hour, which is quite fast.

OnePlus Nord: cameras

OnePlus Nord has a total of six cameras – four at the rear and two at the front. The main rear camera is exactly what you will get with the OnePlus 8. The company has also retained optical stabilization, which is good to see. The other three cameras are an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel macro lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. For the selfie, you get a 32-megapixel Sony IMX616 main lens and an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens.

The camera app is similar to the OnePlus 8 phones and works in a similar way. In broad daylight, the OnePlus Nord’s main rear camera takes decent pictures. We found that the details in the photos are generally good, the colors are good and the HDR works well. There was a slight drop in dynamic range compared to the OnePlus 8. The main camera captures photos at 12 megapixels by default, but you can also choose to shoot at full resolution.

The wide-angle camera captures relatively weak details, but did a decent job with color and HDR. There is no optical zoom of Nord. Instead, you can zoom in up to 10x digitally with the main camera, but the quality is compromised. Close-ups looked good in broad daylight, they had good details, but sometimes the colors come together. The autofocus system was quite fast.

img

Portrait photos When using the main camera, the background is well blurred, although the blur level cannot be set. The macro camera did the job, but it wasn’t great and was only useful when there was good lighting around our site.

oneplus

The photos in low light came out decent and in very dark scenes I had to use Nightscape. The problem with Nord’s night mode is that while it can be quite effective at illuminating a picture, it leaves textures even and shadows bright, which I didn’t like. The wide-angle camera doesn’t actually take usable photos in low light unless you’re using Nightscape.

oneplus

Speaking of the selfie camera, the main selfie camera captured good details in daylight, the skin tone looked good and the HDR worked well. In low light the details were not enough and the overall quality was also average.

Selfies are taken at full 32-megapixel resolution by default, although if you switch to portrait mode, the phone takes 8-megapixel photos. The wide-angle front camera is a nice addition, but we’d like the OnePlus to improve its color profile a bit. Despite the lack of detail, the photos usually show a slight red tinge. When shooting in low light, the colors usually look flat, but the camera was able to capture bright shots.

Sentence

OnePlus seems to be returning to its roots with its “affordable” OnePlus Nord. It’s not a “flagship killer” like the original OnePlus One, but it doesn’t have to be, as the OnePlus itself has a new line of premium flagships. Nord could have simply been called OnePlus Lite or OnePlus 8 Lite, but that may not have had as much of an impact on the name of the new product line. OnePlus Nord looks like an old start and if we’re lucky, we can see a lot more in the series, probably aimed at the lower levels of the smartphone market. If you currently have an older OnePlus smartphone like the OnePlus 6, then Nord should be a good upgrade.

We don’t think many people will miss the Qualcomm 800 series processor in the OnePlus Nord, as it performs well in everyday use. OnePlus Nord is currently the cheapest 5G smartphone on the Indian market, which gives it a unique advantage. Although the competition is fierce, phones like the Redmi K20 Pro and Realme X3 series come with more powerful 4G processors and similar features, if not better in some cases. OnePlus Nord may not compete with these smartphones in terms of specifications, but when you consider the software and accept the promise of timely updates, it becomes an attractive deal for you.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
