Review of Redmi Note 9 Pro Max

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max look almost identical and include much of the same hardware, but the more premium Max models get better front and rear cameras, more RAM and faster charging speeds. Redmi’s retention in the budget and middle class market is so strong that the company has launched at least one smartphone at a price of Rs 7,000 to Rs 20,000. The Redmi Note 9 Max was released by Xiaomi as an upgrade to the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The smartphone is equipped with many great features. It includes a four-rear camera setup equipped with a 64-megapixel main sensor, a Snapdragon 730G chipset and a 5020 mAh battery, and its price in India starts at Rs.16,499.

All this brings us to the question – is the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max specification worth the price or would it be worth choosing the Redmi Note 9 Pro instead? We review the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max to understand all this.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max design

Xiaomi’s Redmi series devices are getting bigger and bigger, the biggest and newer example of this is the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. It is 8.8 mm thick and weighs 209 grams, which does not give a very good experience when used with one hand. It features a large 6.67-inch display that comes in a 20: 9 aspect ratio. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection comes on display. Just above the display is a thin headset, which also contains a white notification light.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner built into the power button on the right side of the phone. We were not very happy with the location of this button, as it is slightly tuned. If you are left-handed, you can put your left index finger in it. Unlocking the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max doesn’t take long.

Another problem we encountered was the placement of the volume buttons. They are above this side-mounted fingerprint scanner and are not easy to reach. Xiaomi has a tradition of introducing IR Blaster on its smartphones, and with the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max the company has kept it. It also has a USB Type-C port along with a headphone jack at the bottom.

Redmi

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is set to four cameras. These sensors are placed in a square-shaped module. This module is so out that it can be opened by placing the phone on the table. The back of the phone has a glossy finish and offers Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in three color options, including Interstellar Black, Aurora Blue and Glacier White. For this review we had a variant of Interstellar Black, which looked blue in bright light. Xiaomi also includes a case in the phone’s case, which should help grip its slippery body. Coming to the accessories in the box, you also get a Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and a 33W charger with the case.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max specifications

Xiaomi is popular for its excellent value for money in its smartphones, and the company has kept the same with the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Here the company has provided a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset in the phone. The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max come with the same processor, making it difficult to differentiate between the two.

However, you will see more RAM and storage space on the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Its variants and price are as follows: 6 GB RAM / 64 GB storage costs Rs 16,499, 6 GB RAM / 128 GB storage costs Rs 17,999 and 8 GB RAM / 128 GB storage costs Rs 19,999. We had 6 GB / 128 GB options for review. Its price coincides with the price of the Redmi Note 9 Pro, which can confuse many buyers.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a larger display that is not an AMOLED panel, nor is it available with a high refresh rate. Xiaomi may not have provided this hardware to keep the price of the phone lower, but few competitors offer these features at this price. However, it cannot be called a bad panel. It has good viewing angles and is quite bright even in outside light. There is a camera hole in the center towards the top, which can distract some people. We got used to it while using the device and later we did not encounter any problem while watching content or doing other things in it.

Redmi

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a 5020mAh battery. Note 9 Pro Max is a smartphone with two SIM cards, which includes dual 4G VoLTE and VoWiFi, as well as Bluetooth 5 support. The smartphone is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and is equipped with GPS and NavIC support.

The smartphone runs MIUI 11, based on Android 10, and our device has been running the security patch since April 2020. There are many customization options in the user interface, and if you’re using a Xiaomi device for the first time, you won’t find it any different. Unfortunately, it comes with several pre-installed unwanted applications, some of which filled the notifications panel of our notification preview module.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max performance

The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max can handle everyday tasks with ease and also loads applications quickly. We had no problems scrolling through menus or multitasking. It doesn’t have a high screen refresh rate like the Poco X2 and Realme 6 Pro, so it doesn’t feel as smooth as these two devices, but it can’t be called bad.

The phone handles games well. When you play PUBG Mobile, it runs at high default settings. We could have played the game comfortably without any delay, but the touch of the phone warmed up shortly after 20 minutes. Although its large display is not easy to use with one hand, it is good enough for gaming and watching videos.

We spent a lot of time watching videos of the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and the battery performed well. With our use, the smartphone easily took a day and a half on a single charge. In our HD video cycle test, it lasted 17 hours and 10 minutes, which is a good result, but Realme 6 Pro managed to achieve 21 hours in this test, which makes it much more than the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. is.

Redmi

You can quickly charge its battery with a 33W charger. It charges the phone from zero to 52 percent in 30 minutes. The device heats up during fast charging. Charging is a slow charge after about 75 percent of the charge and goes from zero to 90 percent per hour.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max

Let’s talk about the camera. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has a 64-megapixel main sensor with an aperture of F / 1.89. Other cameras include an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 119-degree field of view, a 5-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Compared to other phones at this price, the resolution of its macro camera is high.

The camera app is full of features and has a variety of shooting modes to choose from. Photo mode captures 16-megapixel photos with pixel binding using the default 64-megapixel sensor. You can also shoot at full 64 megapixel resolution if needed. There is also Pro Color Mode, which improves the contrast in the images and reminds us of the Dazzle Color and Chroma Boost filters included in the Oppo and Realme smartphones, respectively.

There is a short video feature that creates videos up to 15 seconds long. This is primarily a useful feature for users who upload videos to Instagram and TikTok. In this you can also record video in slow motion at speeds of 120fps, 240fps and 960fps. The macro camera switch is located in a submenu and some may have difficulty finding it.

The photos taken in daylight in the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max were good. We took the photos with a bright sky as a background and the smartphone automatically turned on HDR. The photos look too sharp, which may not be to everyone’s liking. If you enlarge a photo, you will see that the picture is not missing in detail, but there are grains in the shadows.

redmi
redmi

While making close-ups, AI recognizes the subject and adjusts the camera to the scene. The phone adds a soft blur to the background while shooting the subject, making the photos look beautiful. We also used the Pro Color function in the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, which slightly enhances the contrast in the picture.

redmi

The device also has a wide-angle camera that covers a large area, but the detail of the photos taken with this drops significantly. Xiaomi has implemented a wide-angle adjustment that prevents distortion of the barrel (curved edges) at the outlet and gives a clean touch.

We found that the macro camera is good for close-ups, as it focuses smoothly on subjects up to 2 cm away. It captures great detail as long as the subject receives enough light. Its resolution is more than 5 megapixels, which you don’t usually get in other smartphones.

redmi

Edge recognition is very good in portrait mode and the camera separates the subject and the background well. However, he could not detect the small difference between a person’s hand and body and missed the area that needs to be blurred, making him unable to give the full feel of a DSLR picture.

redmi
redmi

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max can detect low light and enhance photos with AI. At the same time, the nipples are also much less visible in the photos, although the lack of detail is definitely visible in it. The phone mixes multiple exposures together when night mode is activated.

redmi

We were curious to see if the 32-megapixel selfie shooter makes this device better than the Redmi Note 9 Pro. In daylight, selfies are good, but there is a lot of softness in them. This is because the beautification mode is enabled by default. If you don’t like it, you can turn off this mode. There is also a selfie camera portrait mode, which separates the subject and the background and gives the selfie a DSLR-like look. The performance of the camera deteriorates in low light and grains appear when the output is increased.

Sentence

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is an upgrade of Redmi Note 8 Pro. After testing this device, we can say that it is better than Redmi Note 8 Pro in many places. The new Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is more powerful, offers better battery life, comes with better cameras and works with the latest version of Android. However, there are many places where we can not call it better than Redmi Note 9 Pro.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro costs less than the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, but has almost identical hardware inside. Following the increase in GST for smartphones in April, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max now starts at Rs 16,499. While the Redmi Note 9 Pro starts at Rs 13,999. The difference between the two can certainly mean a lot to the low-budget person.

However, if you are willing to pay a higher price, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is a better choice. The difference between the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage options of the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Max models is only 1000 Rs, in exchange for which you get cameras with higher resolution and faster charging, which makes it very easy to choose between the two. . Realme 6 Pro and Poco X2 are other commendable options at a similar price.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
