Review of Samsung Galaxy A51

Published

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
Samsung is rapidly expanding its A-Series range in 2020 with several new models. In this range, the company added smartphones Galaxy A71 and Galaxy A51 at the beginning of the year. The Galaxy A51 was launched in India for 23,999 rupees. To keep the series fresh and fresh, Samsung has made some improvements to the existing Galaxy A50s and launched the Galaxy A51.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy A51 smartphone is the first smartphone in the series to come with an Infinity-O display and has a macro camera for Rs 23,999. Apart from these highlights, many of its specifications are similar to the current Galaxy A50S, including AMOLED display, processor and design. Apart from the Redmi K20 Pro (Rs 24,999) and the Redmi K20, no other smartphone competes with the Samsung Galaxy A51 at this price, which may be an advantage for Samsung.

In such a situation, will this new lower-middle-class smartphone be better than the current competition? let’s take a look.

Samsung Galaxy A51 design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy A51 is very similar to the Galaxy A50S. Its body is made of polycarbonate and weighs only 172 grams. At the same time, the phone feels quite thin. Its thickness is only 7.9 mm. The prints are easily printed on his shiny back. However, these marks are not very visible on the color version Prism Black that we have. The surface of the back panel is a bit slippery, but fortunately Samsung offers a case for free in the box.

The biggest change in the Galaxy A51 compared to the Galaxy A50s is the Infinity-O display, which we see for the first time on the Galaxy A series phones. Samsung has named the perforated display as Infinity-O. In this phone this hole drilling is given in the middle of the top of the display as Galaxy Note 10+. Samsung may not have changed the design of the body of the phone much, but the perforated display gives this phone a first-class look, which we appreciate. Galaxy A51 uses a Super AMOLED panel with full-HD + resolution, which provides bright colors and decent sharpness. Due to the thin panel around it, its display looks great when viewed from the front.

Samsung

The buttons are also well placed in the Galaxy A51. There is a card tray on the right side that can hold two nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. At the bottom there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port and speaker grille. The setting of four cameras is given in the back of the Galaxy A51. The good thing is that the protrusion of his camera is not very prominent.

In addition to the phone in the box of the Samsung Galaxy A51, a 15W fast charger, Type-C cable, headphones, a pin for removing the SIM tray and a cover are available.

Samsung Galaxy A51 specifications and software

In the Samsung Galaxy A51, the company gave the Exynos 9611 processor included in the current Galaxy A50S, which in 2020 and at this price makes the phone feel a little weak. Galaxy A51 has been launched with options of 6 GB RAM and 8 GB RAM. 128 GB of internal memory is present in both versions. In addition, the phone includes dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 AC, Bluetooth 5, GPS, NFC and FM radio and more. All normal sensors are present in this phone. Widevine L1 certification is also given in the Galaxy A51. The phone supports Samsung Pay, so you can also use it for contactless payments.

One 2.0 user interface based on Android 10 is given in the Galaxy A51. This new version is similar to the previous version of the One UI we used before. However, the company has made some changes to it to improve the user experience. Instead of sending themes, this user interface now allows the user to change the wallpaper directly from the special menu.

Samsung

In addition, the Device Care submenu has now been redesigned. Battery usage information can now be tracked for the last seven days instead of the last full charge. Now you can also change the app icon for the lock screen. As before, this version still has pre-installed inflation software, including third-party applications and some Samsung applications, but most of these applications can be easily removed. Samsung has also added some India-specific features to the Galaxy A51. At the same time, the user can now convert your SMS into a visual card. Features such as multilingual predictive input and smart cropping are also included.

Samsung Galaxy A51 performance and battery life

The Galaxy A51 feels almost the same as the Galaxy A50 in everyday use. We really liked its thin and light form factor. Its interface is fast to navigate, but does not feel too smooth. Sometimes we notice a lag in the system animations. Its benchmark performance also doesn’t affect much according to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 or 665 chipset. Overall, it’s a bit low on the price of this phone.

Biometric authentication works well, but is a bit slow. Its fingerprint sensor on the display takes some time to verify fingerprints and unlock the phone, as is the case with the face unlock function.

Samsung

The Galaxy A51 comes with Dolby Atmos support, but this feature only works if you use headphones. The sound quality of the headphones that come with it gives an average experience. Although this phone provides better audio with some of the high quality headphones available in the market. The speaker output at the bottom is not high, but it is sufficient for self-listening. One of the best parts of this phone is its display. The brightness of the display is very good and the colors look very good in it. Therefore, watching videos on the phone gives a good experience.

Samsung Galaxy A51 has a battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. This battery lasts 14 hours and 55 minutes in our HD video cycle. With regular use, this phone lasts all day and at the end of the day it had a battery for half a day. Fast charging support is provided in this phone. In our testing, we found that the phone’s charger can charge it up to 67 percent per hour. It takes more than two hours to fully charge. Although it is fast, it is a bit slow compared to other phones in the segment. For example, the Redmi K20 Pro charges up to 80 percent per hour.

Samsung Galaxy A51 cameras

Samsung has added an additional 5-megapixel macro sensor to the new Galaxy A51 phone through the triple camera setup included in the Galaxy A50s. The other three cameras include a 48-megapixel main sensor, a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.

In One UI 2.0, the camera app is also slightly improved over before. Most of the shooting modes are already grouped in the “MORE” menu. The good thing is that you can add them to the main interface of the viewfinder as you wish.

Its main camera takes photos with a 12-megapixel resolution by default, but you can also take photos with a full 48-megapixel resolution. This option is given in the aspect ratio setting. Under good lighting conditions, the Galaxy A51’s camera captures a picture with good detail of the subject in the center of the frame, but the subjects at the edges usually look a little blurry and soft.

The main camera took pictures in good colors in low light. The photos come with a lot of detail and the noise (dots) are also less visible in them. There is also a special night mode, but we did not notice much difference between photos taken in this mode and those taken in standard mode, as the Scene Optimizer of the application automatically adjusts the camera settings to low light when there is low light. .

Speaking of the wide-angle camera lens, it takes up quite a lot of space inside the frame, but has a round curvature at its edges. Even after we included the “Ultra Wide Lens Correction” option in the Camera app, we found spherical distortions in many photos. In addition, low light shots with this lens come with dark and poor detail. Even in night mode, there is no good effect in photos taken with this lens.

Live focus mode blurs the background of photos. The quality of the photos is good and its depth sensor also plays the role of blurring the edge. Users can set the blur in it according to their own.

Close-ups are also good at this. The camera can focus quickly in good light. With a macro camera, the subject can be captured very closely. The colors are good for macro photos, and the details are also abundant in the photos.

Video can be made in Galaxy A51 up to 4K resolution, but does not include stabilization. The video works well in good light, but in low light you can see a lot of grain in the video. If you make a video at 1080 pixels, you will get stable video, but the video looks like flicker during playback. This brightness increases in low light. You can use the Super Stable feature in this camera app, which uses a wide-angle lens to record video. At the same time, the video becomes stable, but the details become very bad.

The 32-megapixel front camera takes pictures with a 12-megapixel or 8-megapixel resolution by default. The selfie in this is not clear many times. The camera softens the skin tone a lot. Sometimes this softness increases so much that the selfie looks blurry. The details are good in low light, but there is a lack of sharpness.

Other camera modes include Pro, Panorama, Food, Hyperlapse, Super Slo-mo and Slow Motion, which have been seen in earlier Samsung phones. Bixby Vision and AR emojis can also be accessed through the camera app. Galaxy A51 also includes AR Doodle, which we saw earlier in the Galaxy S10 series.

Sentence

Samsung has released the Galaxy A51 at a slightly higher price than the starting price of the Galaxy A50s. For that extra price, the company gave you a fourth rear camera, a more modern-looking perforated display and more RAM. Currently, Samsung has released only a 6 GB version of this phone in India, which is priced at Rs 23,999. The 8GB RAM option is listed on the company’s website, but is not yet available for purchase.

Powerful users will immediately claim that the Redmi K20 Pro with the same RAM and storage options for only 1000 Rs more than the Galaxy A51 will provide better performance and will not go wrong. On the Redmi K20 Pro you get a flagship processor, HDR display, higher build quality and better camera setup. If you are going to play a lot, then yes, the Redmi K20 Pro will be a better option for you. Even for a little less money you can get the Redmi K20, which is a capable mobile phone.

However, the Galaxy A51 also has some options that some users may like very much. Despite the high price, this phone will appeal to users who are looking for an easy and smooth experience. In this you get the experience of Android 10. Along with this, the phone gets a thin and light body, Samsung Pay, good battery life, great display and of course the confidence of the Samsung brand. We would like to include a more powerful processor at this price. In addition, its slow biometric sensor and average camera performance also take the phone a step back.

Even the Samsung Galaxy A50s at its new starting price (Rs 19,990) already offers decent value. However, if you want to buy a smartphone that doesn’t expire soon, then it would be wise to buy a Galaxy A51 before the Galaxy A50s.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
