Samsung Galaxy M21 review

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
Samsung has introduced the Galaxy M series as an online-only range to compete with Chinese companies such as Xiaomi and Realme. The smartphones included in this series have gained great popularity due to their aggressive prices and good features compared to other Samsung products. Due to this popularity, these smartphones are now available in offline channels. Samsung recently added another new model to this series called the Samsung Galaxy M21. This new smartphone is equipped with the same specifications included in some of its previous models, but will it be able to make a difference compared to them? We looked at the Galaxy M21 to find out.

Samsung Galaxy M21 design

Samsung is using plastic in the new Galaxy M21 to reduce the price. The back panel of the Galaxy M21 is made of plastic and has a glossy finish. Very easy to catch fingerprints. The Samsung case is not available with a case or cover, so you will need to wipe it until you buy a case for it yourself.

The Samsung Galaxy M21 is an upgrade of the Galaxy M20, but looks like the Galaxy M30s, which was launched in mid-2019. However, it is not available in very attractive colors. Instead, the company released it only in blue and black.

samsung

Galaxy M21 has a large display measuring 6.4 inches and thin frames on the top and sides. Although his chin is quite thick. In the upper center there is a drop slot and a small earpiece just above it. If you have big hands, you can comfortably reach your thumb all the way to the top, otherwise you will have to adjust the phone a bit. However, this phone is not as big as the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max we recently reviewed.

It is also a small problem to get to the volume buttons, as they are set quite unlike our likes. However, the power button and the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner are well located. The thickness of the Galaxy M21 is 8.9 mm. Surprisingly, the device does not feel too heavy in the hand, as both sides are curved. It comes with a weight of 188 grams, which is much lighter than the Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Samsung has provided a USB Type-C port in this phone, which is placed at the bottom of the smartphone. The company gives a 15 watt charger in the box. The 3.5mm headphone jack in the smartphone is also placed down along with the microphone and speaker.

Samsung Galaxy M21 specifications and software

Galaxy M21 comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with full HD + resolution. It is not uncommon to find an AMOLED panel at this price, but Samsung is constantly changing this perception with its Galaxy M series. This panel is alive and the viewing angles are also very good in it. It also performs well in sunlight.

Samsung has chosen the Exynos 9611 chipset for the smartphone. It is an octa-core processor with four ARM Cortex-A73 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores. Comes with Mali-G72 graphics unit. Galaxy M21 is presented in two versions, one is 4 GB RAM and 64 GB memory, and the other is 6 GB RAM and 128 GB memory. For this review, we had the base version, which costs Rs 12,699 on Amazon and Rs 13,199 offline and on Samsung’s website. Similarly, the top-class model costs Rs 14,999 on Amazon and Rs 15,499 elsewhere.

samsung

Galaxy M21 is a device with two SIM cards and has two nano-SIM slots. There is also a special microSD card slot for extended storage. It has support for dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi and four satellite navigation systems. It is equipped with a 6000 mAh battery.

Galaxy M21 runs on One UI 2.0, based on Android 10. The February security patch was still working, which is a bit outdated to date. The user interface is similar to the Galaxy M31 we reviewed earlier this year. We found pre-installed inflator software, including Amazon Shopping, Netflix, Prime Video, Helo and Dailyhunt. We’ve found that Hello and Dailyhunt are sending spam notifications, so we recommend uninstalling them if you’re not using them. We also noticed notifications from the standard My Galaxy app throughout the day.

samsung

This phone gets an always-on display mode and is available for Dolby Atmos headphones and Bluetooth headsets. You also have the option to switch to gesture-based navigation instead of the traditional three-button layout. Other features of Android 10 include dark mode, which takes full advantage of the Super AMOLED panel included in the Galaxy M21. Samsung has also added a Game Booster feature that can block notifications and provide quick shortcuts to your favorite apps.

Samsung Galaxy M21 performance

Samsung’s own Exynos 9611 processor is a capable processor and can handle basic applications comfortably without any signs of delay. However, we noticed that heavy applications take some time to load. The multitasking was smooth and we were able to switch between multiple applications without any problems.

The fingerprint scanner on the back of the device also makes unlocking the device quick and accurate. In the same way, face recognition also does its job. The AMOLED display is the best part of the Galaxy M21 and we enjoyed watching videos on this smartphone. We found that the speaker was a bit small, which slightly overshadowed the content experience.

samsung

We also tried to play PUBG Mobile on Galaxy M21. The game runs at high settings with the graphics set to HD and the frame rate set to high. We noticed some lag in the game, which forced us to reduce the quality of the graphics. After playing the game for 15 minutes, we noticed that the device was a little hot and the battery dropped by 3 percent.

The battery life of the Galaxy M21 is excellent. Thanks to the included large 6000 mAh battery, the phone gave a backup of two days with regular use of the phone. The device managed to last 21 hours and 48 minutes in our HD video cycling test, but the brightness of the phone drops when the battery drops below a certain level. In addition, charging the large battery takes two hours. Using the 15 W charger included in the box, the device charges up to 21 percent in 30 minutes and up to 42 percent in one hour.

Samsung Galaxy M21 cameras

The triple rear camera setting is given in the Samsung Galaxy M21. The main camera comes with a 48-megapixel sensor with an aperture of F / 2.0. Its second camera is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with an aperture of F / 2.2, and the third camera is an 8-megapixel depth sensor. The user interface of the camera is easy to use. It has a Scene Optimizer, which can detect where the camera is aimed and set the appropriate camera settings. In addition to the usual photo and video modes, it also includes features such as Live Focus, Pro, Night, Food, Super Slo-mo and others.

samsung
samsung
samsung

Samsung Galaxy M21 quickly locks the focus and measures the light, but the scene optimizer is not so fast. In photo mode, the Galaxy M21 captures 12-megapixel photos by default. In broad daylight, we found that the camera’s performance was decent, and the Galaxy M21 was able to capture decent detail in the photos. Although it would be better if the output had a little more sharpness.

samsung

The wide-angle camera has a low resolution, which is clearly felt in the photos. It does not capture the same details as the main sensor in the photo. It captures a very large area, but like most smartphones, the photos taken with it show distortion.

samsung
samsung

The performance of the camera in low light is not as good as we have seen with some other phones in this price range. Galaxy M21 managed to keep the noise under control, but the output had a watercolor effect. The quality deteriorates further if you use the wide-angle camera in low light. The night mode of the Galaxy M21 helps to provide a slightly better output, but the phone slightly cuts the frame to reduce jitter.

samsung

The selfies taken in broad daylight had good details. The camera’s user interface gives you a default cut-out view, but you also have the option to change it to a wide frame. The selfie camera takes 12-megapixel photos by default, but if you change the aspect ratio, you can also take photos at full 20-megapixel resolution. In low light there was no noise during the selfie, but grains were visible when magnified.

Sentence

The Samsung Galaxy M21 looks like the Galaxy M30S. It shares many important specifications with the older device. The big difference here is Android 10 and a higher resolution selfie camera, but since the Galaxy M30s (review) recently received the One UI 2.0 update, its selfie camera has improved. Surprisingly, Samsung has set the price of the Galaxy M21 lower than the Galaxy M30. The lower price of the Galaxy M21 and the better chance of getting the Android 11 update take it a step further than the Galaxy M30S.
However, the Galaxy M21 itself is just an average device at this price. Competitors such as Realme 6 (review) and Redmi Note 9 Pro (review) offer much more impressive performance and better cameras and sell for about the same price.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
