Vivo X80 Review: Amazing Camera Performance!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
The X80 and X80 Pro have recently been added to Vivo’s flagship X-Series. We have already reviewed the Vivo X80 Pro and today we will focus on the X80. Here it is important to understand that Vivo has made some changes to the names of the latest X series. The X80 is actually a replacement for the X70 Pro, which came last year, not the X70. In the same way, the new X80 Pro replaces the X70 Pro +, which appeared last year.

The Vivo X80 comes with pretty decent hardware like the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC, a Zeiss synthesis triple camera setup, and a large battery with 80W fast-charging support. Is the Vivo X80 that first-class? I tested it to find out.

Vivo X80 price India

The price of the Vivo X80 in India starts at 54,999 Rs, and its base version comes with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. I had this option with me for review. Its second version comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which costs 59,999 Rs. The company offers the phone in two colors – Cosmic Blue and Urban Blue.

Vivo X80 design

Vivo X80 is well designed and has all the elements you would expect from a flagship smartphone. It has a large display with curved edges. This reminded me of Samsung’s old flagship smartphones, which had a similar design. The frame of the X80 is made of metal, which gives it a first-class look. The power and volume buttons are given on the right side and are also made of metal. They give a solid and snapping feeling when pressed.

The top and bottom of the phone have a flat frame. At the bottom of the phone are a SIM tray slot, USB Type C port, main microphone and speaker. At the top are an infrared emitter, a secondary microphone and two words in English – Professional Photography, which shows that the company has placed a special focus on the camera.

The camera module given in the back of the phone is quite large and occupies one third of the back panel. It is also slightly convex, but its large size does not affect the stability of the phone. The module contains three camera sensors, along with laser autofocus hardware and a dual LED flash.

The back panel of the phone is made of glass, and in the Urban Blue version, Vivo has given it a matte finish. This coating does not allow fingerprints to fall easily on it. The color of the phone is quite unique and the phone stands out from other competitors. If you do not like bolder colors, then you can choose cosmic blue. The company has also provided a case inside the box, which has a faux leather cover.

The Vivo X80 is a large phone and comes with a weight of 206 grams. The weight of the phone is felt when used with one hand, but the company has balanced the weight well, so it does not cause much fatigue in the hand.

Vivo X80 Specifications and Software

The Vivo X80 has a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with Full HD + resolution. There is a refresh rate of 120Hz and a sampling rate of 240Hz. Uses Schott’s Xensation Up glass for scratch protection. The phone also has a built-in fingerprint scanner.

Vivo X80 is the first smartphone to come to India and is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor. This chip is made of 4nm technology and octa-core design. It has one ARM Cortex-X2 core clocked at 3.2GHz and three Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.85GHz. Apart from that, it comes with four efficient Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. The X80 has a Vivo + image chip from Vivo. The company says it has installed a large steam cooling chamber in the phone that keeps its temperature under control. In both versions there is an option to use 4GB of memory as RAM.

The Vivo X80 has a 4500 mAh battery and supports 80W fast charging. The charger is available in the box itself. For connectivity there is Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, 9 5G range, Dual 4G VoLTE and NFC. He received 6 satellite navigation systems together with NavIC. The phone has IP53 class for protection against dust and water. The phone does not have a wireless charging function.

Based on Android 12 Funtouch OS 12 is available in Vivo X80. My unit has had a security patch since May 2022. Various customization options are available in Funtouch OS 12, including custom themes. Its user interface is quite simple, but the phone has many applications for inflating, which I did not like. Most of them can be uninstalled. Vivo’s own applications such as browser, etc. they annoyed me a lot. I’ve been receiving spam notifications all day.

Ultra game mode is given in Funtouch OS 12 for gamers. It can be accessed from the sidebar by going to any game. It has a frame interpolation feature that helps increase the frame rate during play. It gets the Eagle Eye View Enhancement feature, which enhances the in-game viewing experience. The phone also has Esports mode, which frees the gaming processor by blocking UI gestures, notifications. With this, the company promised to provide three generations of Android updates and security fixes in three years.

Vivo X80 performance and battery life

Vivo X80 has all the features of a modern flagship smartphone. It has a powerful AMOLED display with good viewing angles. The phone comes with stereo speakers. I found that the lower speaker is louder than the handset.

The phone performs well in everyday use. I didn’t have to wait long to load the apps. I had the 8 GB RAM version in which I had the RAM extension feature enabled by default. I did not encounter any problem while working multitasking between applications. Even if you are an intense user, this phone will not disappoint you.

vivo

His fingerprint scanner on display managed to unlock the phone all at once. The company also allows you to customize your fingerprint animation. The face recognition function also works flawlessly.

Speaking of results, he scored 983,481 points on AnTuTu. Motorola Edge 30 Pro and iQoo 9 Pro have almost the same results as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. In Geekbench 5, he scored 1,250 points in a single-core and 4,190 points in a multi-core test. He scored 71 frames per second in the GFXBench car chase test.

vivo

I played Call of Duty: Mobile in it and the game went smoothly even with very high and high graphics. I played the game for 20 minutes, after which the battery was reduced by 8 percent. The phone wasn’t hot even after gaming sessions. This means that its cooling system works well.

Along with performance, its battery life is also very good. This lasted a day and a half for me, which involved using a camera along with social media and gaming apps. It runs for 15 hours, 42 minutes in our HD video cycle, which is quite a decent amount of time. Its 80W charger is huge, but not as heavy as the 120W charger that comes with the Mi 11i HyperCharge. The phone charged to 80 percent in half an hour and was fully charged for the next 10 minutes.

vivo X80 camera

The Vivo X series phones are known for their camera performance and there is much to be expected from the X80. The phone has a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization. It also gets a 12-megapixel portrait camera with 2X optical zoom. The third lens is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. It does not have the gimbal stabilization that is located in the portrait camera of the Vivo X80 Pro.

Zeiss Portrait Styles and Zeiss Cinematic Video Bokeh Mode are available in the camera app. Vivo has given a nice T-coating to the camera lens to protect the lens from fogging or damage. For selfies, this phone has a 32-megapixel camera.

The camera app is very easy to use. Switching between different shooting modes is easy. By default, the watermark is available in the phone’s camera, you can also deactivate it if you wish. Its performance in daylight is very good and has a good dynamic range of photos. Remote objects can be seen in good detail even in landscape mode. By default, the colors look a bit saturated, but after activating Zeiss Natural Color, the colors look almost identical to the original scene. Its ultra-wide camera gives a wide field of view, but shows a light warm color tone. The picture quality is not the same as that of the main camera.

Close-up photos are clear, and the background of the photo has a nice natural bokeh effect. Edge recognition is good for photos taken in portrait mode. Many output customization options are available in this mode. When the phone is close to the subject, it automatically switches to the ultra wide angle camera. Thanks to the resolution of 12 megapixels, macro photos come out very well with details.

vivo
portrait

The phone surprised me with its work in low light. It was a quick shot of the stage and preparing the camera for photos in low light. It took the phone three seconds to snap the photo, but the details came out very well. Things were easily recognizable in the landscape shots. When the scene becomes dark, the camera app automatically suggests that you switch to night mode. I found that I do well with the scenes even in street lighting.

night
night

It captures selfies with a default resolution of 32 megapixels. In addition to ordinary selfies, selfies in portrait mode were also taken in detail. In low light the quality was quite good with the flash on the screen.

vivo
vivo

The Vivo X80’s main camera can capture 4K videos, while the selfie camera can capture up to 1080p videos. I wish his selfie camera also had the option to record up to 4K video. In addition to daylight, videos shot in low light were fairly stable and there was a slight jitter when walking in low light. The horizontal line stabilization function is given in this Vivo phone. Even when the phone rotates 90 degrees, it keeps the horizontal line locked there. However, frames in this mode can only be recorded in resolutions up to 1080p.

our decision

If you are looking for a flagship Android phone and do not want to spend too much, then the Vivo X80 may be this smartphone. It comes a little more expensive than the X70 Pro, but the improvements made are fully in line with its price. This Vivo phone comes as a complete package with high performance, good battery life, fast charging and a powerful camera. MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC is quite powerful and can delight users. Software is an area where there is little room for improvement. The user experience may be better if pre-installed applications and fewer spam notifications.

I would recommend buying the base version, which gives a better price / quality ratio at 54,999. Those looking for an alternative can go with the Realme GT 2 Pro or Motorola Edge 30 Pro. Both offer almost identical performance, with a slightly lower price.

iQoo Neo 6 Review: A Powerful Phone at a Reasonable Price!

Published

on

NDTV Gadgets 360 Hindi
iQoo has launched the Neo series in India along with the Neo 6. In this tough competitive segment under Rs 30k, the company has launched the phone with full gear. It carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip, offers 80W fast charging and sports a 120Hz AMOLED display. The charging speed given by the company in this price range is really commendable. It is rare in this segment. But do all these features make the iQoo Neo 6 a phone that can’t be beat? My first impressions of the phone were positive and now it’s time to find out if it’s as good as it looks or not.

iQOO Neo 6 Price in India

The iQoo Neo 6 is priced at Rs 29,999 in India, which comes with the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model. Its top model comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, which costs Rs 33,999. The iQoo Neo 6 can be purchased in Dark Nova and Cyber Rays colors.

iku neo 6 design

The iQoo Neo 6 phone is a rebranded model of the iQoo Neo 6 SE that was launched in China earlier this year. Neo 6 is a large smartphone in terms of dimensions and weighs 190 grams. The phone has a 6.62-inch AMOLED display with a punch-hole design at the top for the selfie camera. Display bezels are thin. The frame of the phone is made of plastic and is kept flat on top and bottom.

iqoo

iQoo has added an IR (infrared) emitter that sits near the secondary microphone on the top. At the bottom there is a slot for a USB Type C port, a speaker and a SIM tray. The back panel is made of plastic with curved sides. The phone is quite comfortable to hold. Its right side is narrow and carries a thin power button and volume rocker.

The dark new color of the phone looks quite elegant. It has a gradient finish that shows a mixed shade of dark blue and bright blue. If you want a flashier phone, then you can also check out its Cyber Rage variant. The phone’s camera module will grab your attention. It has a two-tiered design on which the Neo branding is placed, which is seen separately.

The company has also provided a transparent case inside the phone box. The back panel has a matte finish, so fingerprints don’t fall off so easily. You also get a USB Type C to 3.5mm audio adapter, which is a good thing.

iQoo Neo 6 Specifications and Software

Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is provided in iQoo Neo 6 which is the most powerful processor for this price range. The Mi 11X competes directly with this phone, which has a similar chip. iQoo says it has included a liquid cooling system in the phone to keep the processor cool.

The Neo 6 has a Full HD Plus E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It has a 360Hz touch sample rate that can go up to 1200Hz in some games. The display is also HDR10+ certified and its brightness is 800 nits. iQoo has also provided stereo speakers in the Neo 6, but the phone does not have an IP rating.

iqoo

This iQoo phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, dual-band Wi-Fi, four 5G bands, dual 4G VoLTE and five satellite navigation systems. You don’t get NFC in this. iQoo Neo 6 has a 4700mAh battery and supports up to 80W fast charging. You also get a compatible charger in the box.

Talking about the software, it runs on Funtouch OS 12 which is based on Android 12. The company has promised two years of Android updates and 3 years of security updates with the phone. Its user interface is almost similar to Vivo X80 which I reviewed recently. Too bad I have the same experience with bloated software in this as well. Some applications may be uninstalled. The browser keeps sending spam notifications throughout the day which is quite annoying.

iQoo Neo 6 performance and battery life

iQoo Neo 6 has a powerful processor and there is no lag in the phone even with prolonged use. I had its 12GB variant on which I could multitask, switching between apps very comfortably. I didn’t see any apps reloading at any point. The phone has an extended RAM feature and can use up to 4GB of system memory as RAM.

I enjoyed watching videos on the phone’s AMOLED display. Stereo speakers make the experience even better. The refresh rate is high, so scrolling is smooth in apps and menus. The company has set the Smart Switch refresh rate as the default. It runs at 120Hz most of the time at this setting.

iqoo

iQoo Neo 6 has an in-display fingerprint scanner which is quite reliable and never gets damaged during use. FaceUnlock also works in a similar way. The phone scored well in benchmarks. Its AnTuTu score is higher than the OnePlus Nord 2 with 729,331 points. In Geekbench 5, it scored 983 and 3074 points in single and multi-core. In the GFXBench graph, it scored 50fps in the Car Chase test. Users who want good performance, this phone will not disappoint in terms of results.

I played Call of Duty: Mobile on it, which by default was running on very high graphics and had the frame rate set to high by default. I played the game for 20 minutes in which the battery dropped by 5%. The phone didn’t heat up, which explains its liquid cooling capability.

I loved the battery performance of this phone and it lasted comfortably for one and a half days. In the HD video cycle test, the phone lasted 21 hours and 17 minutes, which is quite impressive. Its 80W fast charger charged the phone 83% in 30 minutes and the phone was fully charged within 50 minutes.

iQOO Neo 6K camera

The iQoo Neo 6 features a triple camera setup that includes a 64-megapixel primary lens with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 116-degree field of view, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel camera. The camera app is very easy to use and looks similar to the Vivo X80 app. The main camera takes 16-megapixel photos by default, but you can click full-resolution photos if needed.

His daylight landscape photos were accompanied by detail and subjects were easily recognizable even from a distance. Words written on distant buildings can also be read. AI optimization is available in the phone which improves the contrast in the output. The ultra-wide camera has a wider field of view and gets the same color profile as the main camera.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone takes close-up photos with clear and full details. This creates a natural bokeh effect between the background and the subject. Edge detection was good in portrait mode. The macro camera also captured extremely close-up shots.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone proved to be very fast when shooting a low-light scene, for which it held the shutter open for a long time. Thanks to this, the image was captured with a clear and detailed picture. In very dark areas, the phone itself suggested switching to night mode.

iqoo
iqoo

The phone’s sensor captures the selfie in full resolution. The app adds a beautification filter by default, but it can also be adjusted or disabled if needed. In daylight, the skin tone is accurate to the photo. In low light, the screen flash is activated automatically for better results. Edge detection was good in selfies taken in portrait mode and the level of background blur was also adequate.

iqoo
iqoo

Its primary rear camera can shoot 4K video at 60 frames per second. Its selfie camera can also shoot videos at this resolution and frame rate, which is rare. Footage was fairly stable in daylight, but motion in low light was a bit shaky. The camera app has a dual video mode so that the main and selfie cameras can record videos at the same time.

our solution

If you are looking for a 30k budget smartphone then you can keep this phone high on your list. The phone’s performance is pretty good, as you’d expect from a device with a Qualcomm chip. The promise of Android and security updates makes it future proof. In my opinion, its base 8GB variant seems better value for money.

I don’t have many complaints about it other than the pre-installed bloatware on the phone. If you pick up the phone for video recording purposes, then be aware that it doesn’t perform as well in low light.

If you want pure software, you can look at the Motorola Edge 30. If you can’t compromise on performance, go for the Mi 11X and OnePlus Nord 2, which are good alternatives in the same price range.
